A South African by birth, I have been fortunate to travel the world for the last few years while teaching. I did not follow a conventional path in education. I joined the South African military out of school, then studied and worked as a journalist, before becoming an instructor in Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations and English at a university in South Africa. After a few years, I went back to the corporate world where I owned a business, but kept up to date with education, training and development. My wife and I sold our businesses and retired to Panama, but found retirement extremely boring. I then dragged my wife off to China where I was the vice principal at a Canadian-Chinese school and taught English Language Arts to high school students. We got caught in China during the COVID-19 pandemic, which I used to study. Once we were able to leave China, we were on the first flight out. Back in Panama, I became the school director at an international school, but as my passion lies in the classroom, I also taught English. Our new adventure lies here at Maywood Public Schools and we can't wait to get the year started. Being a life-long learner, I am looking at starting a PhD in Education, which will supplement my Master's in Education and MBA. I believe in hard work in the classroom, and celebrating each little achievement, because success is not accidental!
