My name is Phyllis Johnson.   I have 12 years of teaching experience, and four of those years have been in Special Education.  I graduated from North Platte High School and received my Bachelor Degree from Kearney State College.  I hold a Master’s Degree in Special Education, a Standard Administrative Certificate for Curriculum Supervisor K-12, Special Education Director, and a Reading Specialist PK-12 from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.  I have been married to my husband, Steve for 31 years and we have three children; Jesse, Kayle, and Brandon.  I also have two step-daughters; Lee Ann and Mary and five grandchildren.

I believe that each student is an exceptional individual with specific needs and strengths.  Students need to be provided with opportunities that will help them succeed.  Every child deserves a valuable education that focuses on their present and future needs.  I believe that every child can learn and should have the support to maximize their potential.  Every student is an individual and has his or her own learning style.

My classroom will be a safe, inviting, and stimulating environment where each student can grow.  My students will be taught to become responsible members of school and the community.  They will believe in themselves and their abilities.  My students will know that they are safe and cared for in my classroom.  Students will be provided hands-on learning, opportunities for student in-put, and lessons that meet their individual learning styles.  My goal is to create life-long learners.

Special Education and Title I are important programs that focus on improving classroom learning and academic achievement.  Students at Maywood Public Schools receive a quality education which prepares them for their post-secondary goals.

“Tell me and I’ll forget, Teach me and I’ll remember, Involve me and I’ll learn.”  Benjamin Franklin
