MPS Library News, December 2018
Tis the season to be…..busy!
December is one of the most festive times of year. It can also be one of the busiest months. It seems there are events and tasks to complete every day. That can make stress levels rise and relaxation seem elusive. Self-care, getting enough hydration and sleep is important to stay vibrant. In the midst of all of the activity we are reminded that this can also be a time of hardship and sadness. Missing loved ones, experiencing financial hardships, battling illnesses and working with difficult family relationships can make this time of year extra challenging. As we move through our days, checking items off of to-do lists, please remember to be patient and gentle with others. We can never really know what issues others are working through, but we can take a softer approach (which could be practiced throughout the year, not just during the holiday season!) Please take time for yourself and your family to really enjoy this opportunity to be together.
~From everyone at MPS, Happy Holidays!

UPDATES:
Those of you that follow the school’s website will notice that we’ve brought back the “rolling banner.” This tool is updated daily and will share the most current activity. For those of you who haven’t checked the website out in awhile, there have been a lot of updates. We post activities, announcements and reminders to Facebook and Twitter, so if you follow us on social media, this information is available on those forums. We are also utilizing the website to keep our patrons informed.
The website includes articles, events, reminders, the lunch menu, school calendar and newsletter.
The front page offers the calendar of events and icon buttons for our most used links such as PowerSchool, Schoology, IXL, along with social media sites . The links are a convenient way for students (and parents) to log into the sites from home or on a smartphone.
Clicking on “quicklinks” shares the Lunch Menu and the Monthly Newsletter PDF. This can be easily be downloaded and printed.
On the left side of the front page, current news articles are is displayed On the right side, under the calendar, are the social media updates.
We are in the process of updating all additional links. The first page is our main focus and that has been revised and polished. Our website can be viewed on any smartphone. There is also a Maywood Public School App available to download. Please check back often and let us know if you have questions, suggestions, or if there is a newsworthy event that to share about.
December Websites:
Ever wonder what Santa’s house looks like? To take a tour, click on this link https://www.zillow.com/house/santas-house/
Of all the Christmas based websites, this one https://www.noradsanta.org/#section-village is a favorite! On Christmas eve, Santa’s movements are tracked here, via GPS. When my children were little, we’d log on to this website to locate where Santa was landing and making deliveries, anywhere in the world. Android and Apple iphone downloads are available for those who want to “track Santa on the fly!”
For the list makers, here’s a great (free) website for gifting https://www.myregistry.com/christmas-wish-list this is a nice option for family and friends living distantly. It can be used for wedding, baby and other life celebrations that include wish lists.
