I don’t know if there are bleachers in heaven, but it sure is heavenly sitting in Maywood’s new bleachers. This remodeling project happened so quickly, one almost needed time lapse photography to capture this much-needed and anticipated transformation.
Work to replace the old bleachers began several days before school let out, when Rick Gilmore and his elite squad of student helpers disassembled and hauled out the old bleachers to make way for the new. Practically on the heels of the last load of steel supports hauled off as scrap iron, a seasoned crew of roustabouts invaded the gym and the rest is . . . well like the Choice Hotels' commercials say “badda [bleachers] badda boom!
A fresh coat of paint on the walls complements the new bleachers, clearly the "crown jewel" of Maywood's 5-year, total transformation of its gym which includes a state-of-the-art sound system, new backboards and wall pads, and a newly refurbished floor, all in the gray and black highlights of the Maywood-Hayes center Wolves. Three cheers of appreciation to the Maywood Public School Board of Education for funding this ambitious long range project and to Rick Gilmore & Co. for all their hard work!
