Paddington Bear comes to Maywood

The friendly bear in old hat and rain coat made a special appearance for P-K - 1st graders at MPS library Thursday, October 5th. Paddington loves to read, so he brought books with him to share with the children and the library.

Paddington Bear’s character was brought to life by the folks from Bible Supplies store in North Platte. For the past five years Bible Supplies’ mission has been to reach out to children with the message that reading is a fun, invaluable component of a rich and successful life. This year, over a 10-day span, Bible Supplies visited 16 area schools, and supplied more than 900 I Can Read books. Each year their representatives come as a different character. This year is was Paddington Bear. Last year it was Biscuit, the dog; and the year before that: The Berenstain Bears.

A fictional character in children's literature, Paddington first appeared on 13 October 1958 in the children's book "A Bear Called Paddington" and has been featured in more than twenty books written by English author Michael Bond and illustrated by Peggy Fortrum.

The Maywood Alumni Association purchased more than 50 books for MPS’s young readers, and the event was organized and sponsored by the Maywood P.T.O./Tiger Paws.
