Dating is the Pits

Dating can be hard. Especially when your date happens to be a raging kleptomaniac, or your grandmother's bridge partner, or a mime. Check Please follows a series of blind dinner dates that couldn't get any worse -- until they do. Could there possibly be a light at the end of the tunnel?

This is the plot of the comedy story “Check Please” being put on by Maywood Public Schools one-act team. The story was about two people who go on blinds dates with people with strange personalities.

Wednesday December 2, the MPS One-Act team competed at districts which were held at North Platte High School. The Maywood team competed against seven other schools.  There are eight actors on the team. The cast members are Calyn Werkmeister, Lydia Fritsche, Kayla Minary, Jace Walther, Jacob Williams, Tucker Hartley, Amanda Smith, Keagan Dibbern, and Tate Hartley.

Lights, camera, action! The adrenaline was high when the Maywood students walked on to a 52 foot stage in the North Platte High School auditorium. Even though the cast didn’t earn the scores they’d hoped for, everybody did a nice job, and the coaches were both pleased with the effort and results they got from it.

Just like volleyball, basketball, and track have seasons, one-act does, too. The play season begins in the August and finishes with district competition usually in late November or early December. Maywood students that participated this year in one-act finished their season with districts in North Platte on December 2, 2015. Through the season the actors worked very hard with practices in the mornings at 7:30, in the gymnasium; in between sports they practiced right after school. They performed their play two times for the public. One time for the community at the school, and the last time was at districts to “act” for a chance at state. When you see the cast members in the halls, make sure to acknowledge their efforts.
