Launch the media gallery 1 player - media #3Maywood’s junior high quiz bowl team was on fire when it competed in its final meet on April 27th. Buzzers buzzed, timer lights flashed and answers flew through the air like spit wads in an English classroom. The reason for all the buzz and commotion was the final jr. high meet hosted by Maywood. “The team finally put it all together in this final match,” said Coach Dustin Kinnison. The Tigers swept the meet and placed 1st. The Jhs quiz bowl team is: Nolan Benjamin, Karlie Gerlach, Tate Hartley, River Hastings, Parker Johnston, Mariah Schneider, Austin Wolf, Paige Wood. When asked if he had a feeling they might win the meet, Coach Kinnison stated “After the first couple rounds I was beginning to think they could do this because the team really loosened up; and even those members who are sometimes reluctant to buzz in, jumped in with total abandon.”
The 5th and 6th graders also competed at the elementary level. The 5th grade team is: Avery Gerlach, Ridge Hastings, Mckenna Renner, and Chloe Stucky. The 6th grade team is: Davi Dodson, Garrett Foster, Matthew Jacobs, Angel Padilla, Reagan Williams and Jaden Wolfe. Patricia Bauer is the elementary quiz bowl coach. The Maywood Tigers’ quiz bowl teams represent our school and community, so remember to wish them well when you pass them in the halls and give them kudos for their efforts. Maywood’s junior high team placed FIRST, so a big congratulation should be shared with all of those students when you see them around.
