Maywood Public School’s One-Act team is performing the one-act play SELFIE. The story follows eight teenagers as they document the daily struggles of teen life, one selfie at a time.  It’s senior year and problems are mounting for a group of high school students as they prepare for the future. Facing bullies, parents, peer pressure, sickness, and their own self-judgment, the characters search for ways to stand out. As they document their year, one selfie at a time, they come to realize life is not about what other people see — it’s about the pictures they have of themselves.  A selfie is photograph that one takes of oneself with a digital camera or a front-facing smartphone, tablet, or webcam, especially for posting on a social-networking or photo-sharing website such as Facebook or Twitter.

On Saturday November 22, the MPS One-Act team competed at districts which were held at Southwest High School. The Maywood team competed against seven other schools.  There are eight actors on the team. The cast members are Luke White, Keri Blackler, Dakota Werkmeister, BreAnna Kahler, Calyn Werkmeister, Lydia Fritsche, Payton Kahler, and Kayla Minary.  Amanda Smith joined the team recently as well. The team performed very well and received three acting awards. These awards were given to BreAnna Kahler, Lydia Fritsche, and Calyn Werkmeister. The Maywood One-Act team will be competing in the conference competition Wednesday, December 3, in the North Platte High auditorium.
