Cage the Cardinals

Drums thumped, cymbals clashed and crowds cheered in Maywood High School’s gym during the week of October 6th.  It was Homecoming week and MPS hummed with activities; each day of the week there was a theme for which the students and teachers dressed. Monday it was America Day where everyone dressed up in Red, White, and Blue. Tuesday was Color Wars; each class was given a color and had to wear as much of it as possible. Wednesday was Superhero Day; Thursday was Dynamic Duo/Twin day, and Friday was Tiger Spirit Day.  Each day closed with high-spirited pep rallies where students and teachers competed in games and cheers. The seniors won the “spirit stick” for everyday because they had the most individuals from their class dress up each day. Everyone had a great time during this week full of spirit!

Of course the daily pep rallies were created to support all the Maywood athletic activities for the week. On Tuesday there was a volleyball triangular between Brady, Medicine Valley, the Maywood Tigers. The Tigers were able to come out with a win against Medicine Valley. On Thursday Cross Country RPAC was at Alma. Tucker Hartley medaled with 11th place; Gage Seiler placed 28th in a field of 39. BreAnna Kahler and Payton Kahler placed 17th and  22nd respectively in a field of 34 girls.  On Friday the big homecoming games took off. The Tigers competed against the Hayes Center Cardinals. The boys put up a good fight but lost 66 to 27. At 5:00 the Maywood Lady Tigers started the battle against the Lady Cardinals. Maywood started strong winning the first set against Hayes Center, 25 - 22, but the Tigers did not finish with a win. The Tigers lost the next three sets 25-22, 29-27, and 25-22. After the Volleyball game Maywood crowned the homecoming king and queen.  Homecoming Queen was Corey Eshleman and Homecoming King was Dalton Littell. Following the crowning of royalty there was a dance from 8:00 to 11:00. Groovy dancing tunes were provided by Mr. Benjamin and Mrs. Stengel!
