2013-14 A-Team Champions Rewarded

CRASH!  POW! DING! DING! DING! SWISH! Bowling balls thundered down lanes and crashed into pins, alien space ships and laser gun zipped across video screens, and basketballs swished and thumped through nets as extra points blinked on the display panel. Had you been at Wild Bill’s Wings and Bowling Alley on the afternoon of October 8, you would have heard these sounds mixed with the laughing and cheering of elementary and high school students. In between the games there were boxes of pizza to eat and, of course, buffalo wings heaped up on plates for the partygoers to devour. What brought all this excitement and celebration? It was MPS reward day recognizing the A-Team champions

Accountability, Academics, and Achievement are all things MPS Tigers strive for in with a new program called A-Team. Using the motto “Tiger Excellence and Mentoring,” Mr. Benjamin, MPS’s principal, created this program to create goals and to help children achieve them. This is an annual program that runs at two levels, K-5 and 6-12. With grades 6-12, the students are divided equally possible amongst the number of teachers by using their fall session MAP scores. The students are then divided into groups with six to seven a team or teacher.

This program has proven very successful as of these last two years and as a result the team that improved the most in grades earned a reward for their hard efforts and determination. The high school champion team consisted of Mr. Heaton, Tate Hartley, Kaely Perkins, Danielle Thormodsgaard, Devon Littell, and Dylan Wiles. Mrs. Shirley’s 1st graders were the elementary champions. This day of recognition and rewards motivated other Maywood students to achieve their goals that they set for themselves. MPS is looking to recognize and celebrate new champions this year as all students work hard to improve their overall skills and test scores.
