Maywood Ag Education Off to a Great Start
The Maywood Ag Education department has spent this first month getting ready for all the activities for the upcoming school year. We had two students participate in the Nebraska State Fair. Those included Bryar Gerlach (junior) and Paige Wood (8th grade). Each student represented our FFA chapter well, bringing home blue and purple ribbons with their livestock exhibits. On September 13, Bryar Gerlach participated in the NCTA Livestock Judging Clinic and Contest. His hard work paid off as he received 2nd place in the junior livestock judging division.
Our ag classes are working on getting out in the community through various farm/ranch visits. The plant science class has also spent a significant amount of time out by the greenhouse, weeding and making the school grounds look better. And if you happen to see a freshman, ask them to recite the FFA Creed for you.
Many of the FFA kids are preparing for the Area Land Judging contest to be held in Alma on October 1st. From there, the sophomores and juniors who are FFA members will travel to North Platte on October 6th for the Pathway-2-Careers conference. This exposes students to various career opportunities in agriculture that they may not have considered. Other upcoming dates to mark on the calendar include the Southern Valley Livestock Judging Contest on October 18 and Feed the Farmer on October 24th.
