New Changes to Maywood Public School

by Stevie Handsaker

The slow process of getting a new HVAC system has been ongoing for years, and it is finally done thanks to the school's administrators and school board. The new HVAC system isn't  just any old heating and cooling system, this system is energy efficient, and helps with air quality of the school to make it easier for students to learn. One may wonder, where are the air conditioners if they are not in the windows? Well, look above you, throughout the school there are oddly shaped white vents on the ceiling, that is where the air/heat comes from. The temperature in the rooms are controlled by little monitors on the wall in each classroom, or Mr. McCain and Mr. Bejot both have an Icomfort app on their phones to monitor each classroom. Once the whole school’s temperature gets balanced out and on track Mr. Bejot hopes to save at least $20,000 a year in electricity bills for the school.

On top of the new HVAC system the school also installed new windows that are also energy efficient, and add a little extra light to the classroom which I personally enjoy. The school also bought new boilers for the gym that are much more space efficient, but are not completely done yet. Along with that down in the lunchroom the cooks got a new stove, a new walk-in freezer, and new tables for the students to eat in the cafeteria. Overall I would say Maywood Public School is getting into the modern age and trying to freshen up the school as a whole!
