Showing the kids the ropes, or hoses in this case.
During National Fire Prevention Week, October 10-14, 2016, attention is focused on promoting fire safety and prevention. However, we should practice fire safety all year long. Many potential fire hazards go undetected because people simply do not take steps to fireproof their home. The Maywood Volunteer Fire Department met with Preschool through 5th grade students on October 14th to discuss Fire Safety. They talked to the students about many topics. The students got to look into the fire truck cab and compartments, the ambulances, and some classes got to practice spraying the water hoses. Please discuss Fire Safety with your families and where your ‘safe’ meeting spot is in case of a fire. Also, having students learn to dial 9-1-1 on a cell phone is very important in the case of an emergency.
