Wax off, wax on
Now that school is back in session and everyone is getting settled in, one of the big changes that the students might have noticed is the new gym floor. Over the summer, Weissert Hardwood Flooring came in and renovated the entire gym floor. The gym was closed for renovation from July 21st to August 14th. They started by sanding the floor to get clear down to the hardwood. They then put a new coat of finish on the wood to give it a glossy shine. Their next task was the painting. A very interesting fact about the new gym floor was that the entire floor was hand painted.
Some of the new changes to the gym floor include the “M” which lies right at mid-court. It has replaced the iconic tiger that laid there before it. The acronym “RPAC”, which stands for Republican Plains Activities Conference, was painted right below the free throw line on both sides of the court. The word “Tigers” that occupied the side of the court for many years has now been removed also. Brand new black wall mats, featuring the school's crest and name, have been added to each end of the court and cover the entire baseline. On the east side of the gym, two agility ladders have been added to the outer edge, and multiple agility dots now lay spread out across the west side of the gym. The gym floor was shaded with a darker colored stain from right inside the arch to the baseline and the free throw lane on both sides of the court. The students were pleasantly surprised at the sight of the new gym floor. They are very excited to start competing on this brand new addition to Maywood Public Schools.
