Can you dance "The Carlton?" If not, just ask the Maywood upperclassmen and they’ll teach you how; and the “Dougie,” too! Last Saturday, April 16th, Maywood Juniors put on their annual junior/senior prom that was themed, Neon Night, and let me tell you, it was LIT! The juniors and their class sponsors, Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Miller, worked very hard and set things up all in one night to prepare for the event. They really out did themselves with the sparkling disco balls, neon lights, and all the other amazing decorations. Seniors Calyn Werkmeister, and Marisa Foster were crowned Prom King and Queen, respectively. Royalty and others danced the night away to some straight “fire” music. The juniors, seniors, and their dates were able to attend the banquet that was held in the commons area prior to the dance. The kids absolutely loved the New York Strips and the homemade cheesecake!
After the dance, everyone attended post-prom festivities at the community hall held by all junior parents. What is a post-prom party? A post-prom party is an event that is held immediately after the Prom to offer students a safe, alcohol and drug free night of fun activities. Teens can celebrate into the early morning without many of the worries and dangers that previously existed. The parties are great for parents, too. They enjoy peace of mind knowing their kids are in a healthy, supervised environment. This year’s post-prom was decorated just like a luau party. They held a dodgeball tournament, played human foosball, limbo, tug of war, basketball, and enjoyed tons of food and prizes. Everyone had a fantastic time attending prom despite the pouring rain! A huge thank you goes out to the juniors, Mrs. Johnson and Mr. Miller, and all the junior parents for making this year’s prom a night to remember!
