Pancakes to Plinko
The Maywood Parent Committee hosted the 11th annual Maywood Carnival on March 28th. The high school gym hummed with the laughter and voices of children and parents as they meandered past tables filled with exotic-shaped delectable cakes, games of skill/chance and even a “glitter tattoo” booth. Children of all ages were welcome to attend and play games such as go fishin,’ hoopin,’ and bingo. It also had an area for the preschool kids and younger kids to play games and activities.
One of the activities available was the Vertimax booth. The Vertimax is a resistance band training machine. The school has recently acquired two of these machines. While on display at the carnival the students were allowed to test out the machine with a range of activities from running to jumping. Using these will allow athlete’s verticals to increase and help them to run faster. As a result these machines will be a tremendous asset to the athletic program here at Maywood High School.
While the “plink” “plink” “plink” sound of the plinko game echoed faintly from the gym, the savory smells of pancakes and sausages greeted carnival patrons in the commons area. This delicious breakfast-for-dinner feast was sponsored by the girls’ volleyball and basketball teams raising money to attend summer camps. Overall the night was a smashing success! A big thank you goes out to Parent Committee for hosting this event every year and other activities throughout the school year!
