A Night in Paris

Parlez-vous français? Do I speak French? No. Voulez-vous danser? Do I dance? Yeah Baby!! Last Saturday, Maywood high school students attended the Junior/Senior Prom! This year’s theme was “A Night in Paris”. The juniors and their class sponsor, Mr. Kennedy, worked very hard and set things up all week to prepare for the event. This year they did something new known as the “grand march” where the students and their dates are announced and walked in so that everyone could see them. Prom King and Queen were twins Quinton and Breanna Phillips. Royalty and others danced the night away to contemporary hits, while refreshing themselves with ice cream punch and a variety of delicious cookies!

After the dance, everyone attended post-prom festivities at the community hall held by all junior parents. What is a post-prom party?  A post-prom party is an event that is held immediately after the Senior Prom to offer students a safe, alcohol and drug free night of fun activities. Teens can celebrate into the early morning without many of the worries and dangers that previously existed. The parties are great for parents, too. They enjoy peace of mind knowing their kids are in a healthy, supervised environment.  At this year’s post-prom there was a mechanical bull, a Velcro wall, and bungee strap game. Everyone had a good time attending prom. A huge thank you goes out to the juniors, Mr. Kennedy, and the junior parents for making prom a night to remember!
