Ingison Receives Second Place in Essay Competition

Jenna Ingison, 8th grader at Maywood Public School, placed second in the Kayak Kids Essay, sponsored by the Southwest Region, Parks Division of the Nebraska Game and Parks. Students in grades 6-8 were given the prompt, "Why growing up enjoying the outdoors is important." Essays were handwritten and submitted to Aric Riggins, Supt. IV Southwest Parks Supervisor. The first place winner received a kayak and second place winner received a rod and reel. All writers were invited to participate in the awards ceremony at Red Willow State Recreation Area. A meal was provided and participants were eligible to win prizes.

Ingison said, "I really didn't think I was going but it was really fun to learn the writing process, going through the steps to create an amazing essay."

"It was exciting to write about the outdoors because that is something that interests me," said Pryce Johnston. Johnston, 7th grader, attended the celebration at Red Willow and won an assortment of fishing lures. She also picked up the rod and reel for Ingison. MPS students were gifted with Kayak Kids t-shirts.
