MPS holds annual National Honor Society tapping and induction ceremony

Recently, Maywood Public Schools held their annual National Honor Society tapping and induction ceremony on Monday, April 24th 2017. The ceremony was held in the gymnasium at 2:30PM. This year, there were five new members that were inducted. Those members are Tate Hartley, Paige Wood, Kaitlyn McGuire, Grace Koubek, and Carol Neilsen. In order to be inducted into the National Honor Society, students must hold at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. They must also possess the qualities of Knowledge, Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Mr. Andy Long of McCook Community College, was the guest speaker for the event. Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the library for NHS members, family, and staff. 

Andy Long is the campus Vice President at McCook Community College and Vice President of Student Affairs for the Mid-Plains Community College area.  He grew up in Grant and was a former Perkins County HS National Honor Society Member. After college he taught high school social studies and coached basketball at South Platte High School and Cozad High School. Then, he worked for the Gallup Polls for two years and now has been in higher education for 9 years, first at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, for five and a half years, and he is finishing his fourth year at McCook Community College. Mr. Long is happily married to his wife Kerri and they have a daughter, Quincy, a son, Brooks, and a baby due in May.
