4th & 5th graders get down and dirty
Mrs. Bollish's and Mr. Reinke's 4th and 5th grade classes were given permission to play with dirt! On Thursday, March 30th, Molly Brandt from the UNL Extension office visited the 4th and 5th grade classrooms to give a presentation on "Living Soils". During this time, the classes talked about the different types of soils, what materials they are made of and what is needed for plants to grow. After a video and discussion over Till versus No-Till, the students participated in a demonstration on what happens to the soil when a heavy rainfall occurs on both till and no-till land. At the end of the presentation, the students were able to take home a corn seed, surrounded by water beads, to watch it sprout.
