MPS’s Halloween Parade a ‘Spook-tacular’ Event

As the end of October approached, so did the time of sweets, treats and scares. Halloween takes place during the most beautiful time of the year; the leaves change from yellows to gold and silken browns; oranges to reds - finally falling and the plants falling into a dormant winter’s sleep. October is the time of the annual Pumpkin Carving contest which is when the Maywood FFA class invites all students to bring in pumpkins to decorate. The carving and activities took place October 29th-30th. The kids would have these days to make their scary creations in their home laboratories.  Creations varied from Frankenstein and The Mummy to a pink pig and Cookie Monster. The contest gives the children a fun activity for them to let loose with their creative sides and if they manage to place, they receive a lovely prize.

The haunting festivities culminated on Friday with the elementary students’ Halloween parade of rooms, which allows them to show off their spooky costumes while marching through each high school classroom. Many dress up as their favorite characters from movies or as real live person. Examples included: Elsa from the film Frozen, Husker players such as Kenny Bell, and pirates. After the parade the young spooks and goblins gathered in the lunch room and enjoyed a party with parents and plenty of “trick-or-treats!”
